John Myatt describes his most recent composition as a ‘rearrangement of the elements’ in Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painted feature entitled, ‘The Harvest’.
Celebrated contemporary landscape artist and reformed faker, Myatt may have cheekily ‘borrowed’ the same name as befits the Van Gogh original, yet the nucleus of the giclee-presented, limited edition study is blatantly different from the original, in terms of positioning of key objects and pivotal subject matter.
Yet, as is often the case with Myatt pieces, at first glance there’s little to differentiate. Still, at least Myatt flags his individually number and signed (his autograph and ‘Vincent’s’ tongue-in-cheekily) pieces up as unquestionably self-brushed these days, rather than his ambiguous approach of the past, past.
Myatt adds; “Van Gogh used chrome yellow straight out of the tube, and so have I. the object of the painting is to suggest the intense heat and brilliant light of southern France and the harmony between mankind and nature.” Job done.
