Raised in the industrial North-east in the 1950s, it’s fair to say that Middlesbrough-born contemporary fine art practitioner, Mackenzie Thorpe wasn’t exactly born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Yet despite any perceived lack of a materialistic head-start in life – and whilst noting the occasional bouts of loneliness and isolation - Thorpe was never short when it came to being enveloped by a strong sense of community, warmth and humour which habitually flourished in the (sometime) face of adversity, experienced during his formative years. It’s this tangible feeling of togetherness and belonging which fuels his artistic dreams and pictorial ambitions as much today as when he first started, and is an ambience which soaks through the very canvas of his latest giclee mounted limited edition.
