In a previous (professional) life and times, now-celebrated contemporary landscape art exponent, Elaine Mather sought a living from being a textile designer; and it was while she was gainfully employed by Liberty Textiles that she was required to work on a bonsai tree design. Taking up the back story, Mather explains; “The texture and intricacies of those trees - each one unique - was probably the start of my fascination with those giant protectors of the environment. The trees in textiles were always vibrant with weight and texture.”

Taking this thought and visually running it a number of years later – and after turning her back on the textile design sector – Mather has certainly stuck with that original notion and built on that initial inspirational juncture in her earlier career; and something which is never more graphically illustrated than here in the parameters of her very latest Spring 2016 compositional reveal. Entitled ‘Blue Thunder’ this gregariously hued and considerately saturated giclee on boxed canvas study is every one of its 24 squared inches a graphic sight to behold; as it glorifies a statuesque tree resplendently coloured in all shades of blue and casting its impressive shadow over a field of wild flowers beneath.
