The eagle-eyed amongst you may have long noticed that John Wilson often dabbles in what many might concur is a seemingly limited palette, comprising of a somewhat muted selection of Titanium White, Lamp Black, Prussian Blue, Yellow Ochre and Vermillion Red. However there’s a very logical reason behind this applied thinking, because – and as the critically acclaimed contemporary 3D cityscape artist himself points out – this essentially affords the finished compositional article the desired Lowry-esque look which he strives to capture. At least, when he’s on a visual departure away from his other tried and tested (but far less classically structured) pictorial methodology which is equally noted for the graphical inclusion of child-like iterations superimposed onto more conventional – and contemporary cityscape – backdrops.

But returning to here and now – and Spring 2016 to be specific – and ‘Steam Up’ is all about the steam locomotive making its journey across the viaduct which spans a very familiar northern-themed industrial landscape. A landscape which accommodates the flat-capped and darkly orchestrated presence of a working class populace striving to work and live their lives to the fullest. The weight and composition of this strictly limited edition framed wall sculpture is every inch the success story we’ve quickly grown to expect from an artist of Wilson’s extraordinary talents, which again underlines why we’re forecasting a wealth of interest in this latest release this season. And why we’d therefore urge interested parties to register their intent ASAP.
