It takes a certain special mental imagery to fuse together the revered creative likes of the peerless Lewis Carroll with the modern day visual magnificence consistent with eccentric writer and film director, Tim Burton. But then highly acclaimed and much-respected contemporary fine art practitioner, Peter Smith is himself something of a past master as crafting compositionally stupendous scenes. But bring together these two visually imposing elements Smith has to create his brand new Autumn 2015 collection, entitled ‘Lost Alice’. And if that wasn’t enough, in order to make a good pictorial stab at things from the outset, Smith first penned a 14-part continuation of Alice’ s story for good measure.

Imagining Alice as a 50-year old woman – and putting her in a similar, hole-ascending position from a literary viewpoint – helped Smith with his graphic account of her next moves, and one which we can all share in and savour hereabouts. For its part, ‘We're All Quite Mad Here!’ is a limited edition canvas on board study which sees one of Smith’s quintessential Impossimal characters take on a more Wonderland-dwelling appearance, complete with a familiar sidekick in the feline shape of an (albeit highly stylised) Cheshire Cat. The subsequent 23" x 36" iteration ticks all the right Smith boxes for us, and is expected to meet with the approvals of his legions of fans, critics and seasoned collectors alike now that it’s been placed in the public domain.
