Just like a contemporary fine art, ‘Spot the Difference’ competition, at first glance there’s seemingly little to illustratively differentiate between critically-acclaimed contemporary fine artist, Doug Hyde’s brand new ‘Boy Racers II’ and the 10 year professional publishing career-celebrating practitioner’s original, ‘Boy Racer’ study. However on closer scrutiny you’ll discover that the original car was blue (reflecting his (then) neighbour’s MG bodywork), while the very latest edition is presented as a red car (mirroring his Auntie Mary’s choice of MG exterior colour).

Inspired by the reaction of Hyde’s young son to both open-top sports cars over the course of the last decade – coupled with the best-selling artist’s own acknowledging of a car park full of boy racers back in the day – Hyde has re-trod this meaningful old compositional ground as one-tenth of his currently launching Autumn 2014 collection. Entitled ‘Love Counts’ (and overseeing the revealing of one new limited edition, hand-signed framed boxed canvas version), the portfolio is unveiled daily – and teasingly - throughout mid-September; and given the historical mass appeal of his works, demand will almost certainly outstrip the limited supply.
