The ice-cream eyes have it, and the stolen glances as a young couple promenade avec their canine pal in tow. Said canine pal hasn’t noticed the lurking cat in the semi-distance, loitering with intent by a nearby cottage wall, another elevation of which is providing cover to another evidently loved-up twosome, who are coupling under the shade of the summer’s aphrodisiacal sun. Love must be in the air in contemporary landscape artist, Mike Jackson’s attentively details and bombastically coloured visual take on English coastal life. It does have that effect though. And knowing that, the ice-cream seller’s onto a good thing there, flogging dairy products and stories yet told of romance from his humbly-spired kiosk, whilst the sail boats in the bay pit their nautical wits against the cussing winds and thermals. A wonderful vision of a typical English coastal vista at ease, as welcoming and inviting as fable suggests, and compositioned to pleasing effect at the brush of Jackson.
