As scary dogs go, this ramshackle collection of mutts hardly appear that intimidating, not to mention looking far from agile and muscle-bound. In fact, it’s fair to say that the majority would probably just cover you in slobber and roll over to have their tummies tickled if the boundary was ever breached by either party. However, as many a postman will attest to, ‘Beware of the Dogs’ sign is usually printed in large letters for good reason, so far be it from us to throw caution to the wind.

Showing his playful, witty and personable artistic side once again, ever-popular contemporary landscape and figurative artist, Gary Walton has of late been busying himself producing his predominantly dog compositions; where he puts his canine muses in a variety of familiar situations and allows us to make up our own minds as to what precisely is going on.

In Walton’s almost cartoon-esque style of painting, where we’re never more than a storyboard and caption away from animatronic and aniDalmation (ho hum), the colouration is typically subdued and resistant of great swatches of gregarious shades, instead opting to run with steely greys, blues, browns, stones and other neutrals which afford the pieces a graphical element for all intents and purpose.
