There’s something very sad and resolute about leading contemporary landscape artist, Gary Walton’s latest creative venture seen here, yet conversely beautiful and phlegmatic at the same time.
Having seen the end of natural service sometime in the past, these two tin-hulled fishing chariots are witnessed resting on their laurels for what might be an eternity, as they rust under an encroaching starry night sky.
The sort of starry night sky that would once follow days of endeavour and activity in their then meaningful existence. In the background of this, Walton’s ‘Rusty Tubs I’ composition, is the presence of an altogether different light; a guiding light, that would once direct those rusting carcasses into the shallows of the bay and to refuge, harbour-side, whilst adjacent to the lighthouse is a jutting white cliff, suggesting further land-break.
Gorgeous, inviting colourations, consistent with that of an ushering dawn are tell-tale Walton flourishes, which unlike the boats will never wither or wane with the passing of time.
