Seeking comfort, assurance and security from her bountiful and protective nocturnal swaddling, the ‘White Linen’ of acclaimed contemporary figurative artist, Fletcher Sibthorp’s most recent composition is the one safe haven that the young woman pictured can retire to in times of trouble and strife.

Emotionally bereft, possibly scarred by visually undisclosed events of late, she stares into the fabric abyss of her bed linen, looking for answers to questions that we’re unaware of. Sibthorp paints a study seemingly derelict of requited love, courtesy of dirty, un-scrubbed green and grey background saturations, which in pictorial turn are only ever countered to a limited degree by the onset of the shaded pale bed sheets in which she’s cocooned within.

Shadows, silhouettes and carefully considered light play their part in this bold illustration, which rises well above the searing complexion and misery entrenched in the face of the emotion-beset young woman.
