‘White on Black Study’ is somewhat of a briefly investigated pictorial departure for an artist more normally known for his sublimely, electrically coloured commitence of subject matter to painted surface, all slap and dash etched blocks and brushed magnitude, powered by the passion and celebration of dance itself.

Yet on this occasion we see before us a strictly monotone visual pronunciation, with linear strokes and bold white spaces hewn with neither figure nor form.

The female dancer is purely stretching, limbering up possibly, against an unseen marker behind her, extended arms and turn of single ankle, poise and balance is still supreme and un-jarred, despite the non interference of a mid-battle performance of note and Sibthorp signature.
