Look closely and you’ll see a lot more than initially meets the eye in popular contemporary landscape artist, Mike Jackson’s very latest-most composition, entitled, ‘Fish and Ships’. Yes, no additional points for clocking the lighthouse in the distance or for that matter the decidedly red handbag clasped in the hand of the buxom lady walking in the foreground with her gentleman friend. However, should you have observed sneakily, secretly canoodling couple getting to grips with one another in an intimate (PG) fashion directly behind the typically seaside beach huts, then consider yourself a scholar. Or an eagle-eyed participant at the very least. A recurrent theme employed by Jackson in recent paintings, the engaging (and engaging) couple are nearly always discovered stealing a forbidden moment of amour with one another in public places. Only just far enough out of sight of prying eyes. A lovely perpetual flourish by Jackson that adds humour and warmth to a thoughtfully coloured, balanced and weighted composition.
